Four candidate notices will be accepted and printed under the heading at a uniform rate of five dollars each, paid in advance. Announcements for magistrates cost three dollars.
The many friends of the Hon. E F Looper announce him as a candidate for County Supervisor, subject to Democratic party primary rules.
At the earnest solicitation of friends, G. W. Bowen offers himself for re election to the office of County Commissioner, subject to the action of the Democratic primary election.
The notice offers selling two or three dozen cattle aged one to three years and several mule colts from R A Ester of Liberty, SC. A large reward is posted for 1,000 bushels of peas found, with instructions to deliver to L B O'Dell's wholesale and retail store in Liberty for top price. Also advertised are plows and sweeps, rice, tobacco, flour, and a price cutter T D Harris.
An ordinance in Pickens prohibits riding bicycles on sidewalks and requires authorities to handle any violator. The rule applies to all riders and enforces sidewalk safety measures citywide.
The Pickens Railroad has awarded J. H. Bennett & Co. a contract to fill eight trestles on the line from Pickens to Easley. Work starts this week and should finish in sixty days with about twenty workmen, a steam shovel, and two trains of ten dump cars.
The examination for Winthrop College scholarships and new student admission will be at the County Court House on Friday July 3 at 9 a.m. Applicants must be at least sixteen. Early growth and maturity lead to earlier opening and better weight, with Septembers’ 120 bolls per pound and late harvest requiring 300 to 400 bolls for a pound.

W D Edens died at his home April 28 1914 after a lingering illness of lagrippe He was 85 years 8 months 22 days old and buried at Mountain Grove cemetery the following day Funeral services were led by Rev W C Seaborn He leaves a wife six daughters 24 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren He was twice married first to Sarah Ann Lewis and later to Rachel Earl He was a member of Mountain Grove Baptist church He faced death with faith and calm resignation. On Sunday May 17 Mr. L R Dalton celebrated his 68th birthday with a gathering of nine living children and twenty seven grandchildren, totaling forty six. The event included a grove table feast, music from the organ and ice cream, with friends and family sharing hours of conversation and best wishes for many more such days.
A Sunday gathering at Cross Roads church drew a large congregation that overflowed the building. The pastor spoke on the "Journey of Human Life" as tears marked recalling memories, and he urged unity to safeguard future victory for the Lord's people.
Easley area residents and relatives are noted traveling to Atlanta, Europe, Davidson College and Spartanburg. Visits include Mrs. J A Higgins to Greenville and Miss Floride Davis with J M Smith and Will Hagood at Davidson. Dr J S Moffatt will preach the baccalaureate sermon next Sunday.
In Saltillo area preparations by General Villa's Army of Mexico are underway with high morale. Reports say a Constitutionalist force of 300 surprised and routed 400 Federals near Paredon, boosting the troops' spirits as Villa emphasizes music and orderly drill to keep morale high.

Dacusville Corn Club president Sam Jones calls a meeting for Saturday May 23 at 2 o clock. All members urged to attend for important business including arranging a prize for the club. The Dacusville boys have an excellent club and will be heard from later.
A community sing at Keowee Church runs from 4 p.m. with an all day session inviting everyone to join and participate in the singing.
Washington presses Huerta for immediate information on Private Samuel Parks who strayed into Mexican lines near Vera Cruz. The note warns that if Parks is alive and unaccounted for it signals unfriendly hostilities and potential violation of the ceasefire. Officials weigh possible actions as Rio de la Plata reports reach Mexico City.
A disastrous acid explosion in the Mexican Crude Rubber Company mixing room in Detroit kills ten chemists and workers. Four others are hospitalized and two are seriously hurt. The one story concrete building is nearly obliterated with debris across a wide radius. Estimated losses reach fifty thousand dollars. Dead include Edward Christopher William Mc Coy C Larsen Al Hodgkins Victor R Burns William F Niles Jose Casso Gorton Latta Emon Aman George Greggoria.
President Wilson signed bills elevating the American legations in Argentina and Chile to embassies. Ministers Naon and Suarez will be present with Secretary Bryan and other officials. Reciprocal actions expected to make them ambassadors.
War department orders 6500 artillerymen along the Atlantic Coast to stay ready for rapid deployment to the South. Authorities indicate plans to add two brigades to the forces for potential service in Mexico, with preparations nearly complete at the army building and Governor's Island.
An old advertisement offers one hundred dollars reward for an incurable catarrh case and touts Hall's Catarrh Cure. The Pickens chapter U D C enjoyed two pleasant gatherings. The first at Mrs. Bessie Smith’s Liberty home hosted 25 Pickens daughters. The second, at Mrs. W T O Dell’s, held the May meeting and planned the June celebration with refreshments by Otis O Dell Annie Belle Brown and Vivian Allgood.
Preparations are underway at Pickens high school for the commencement exercises to be held in the school auditorium on Thursday and Friday May 28 and 29. Dr Mark L Carlisle of Greenville will deliver the commencement address. Nine pupils will graduate this year: Misses May Griffin, Emmie Griffin, Susie Hester, Minnie Herd, Flora Kelley, Mary Morris, Messrs Doyle Looper, Fletcher Porter, Charlie Welborn.
Mrs. Mary S. Mullikin died at her home between Liberty and Central last Wednesday night after a stroke of paralysis on Monday. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. J. C. Bailey at Clayton burying ground Thursday. She was a Clayton native and grandmother of Mrs. Ivy M. Mauldin of Pickens.
Mrs Frank McFall entertained guests at her Hamp ton Avenue home for a late season social event. The decor featured flowers and ferns with rooms opened as a large reception space. About seventy guests attended and Frances Bruce and Mary Morris served punch.
The Edens family expresses gratitude to friends and loved ones for kindness during the illness and death of W. D. Edens and thanks Dr Valley for his attempts at relief. May the Lord bless and save them all, signed by his daughters.

John M. Cannon a prominent Laurens attorney was shot five times and killed by Joseph Sullivan a young farmer after completing a magistrate court speech in Gray Court Laurens county The shooting followed a case brought by a schoolteacher involving the defendant and a charge of common assault and property damage Sullivan and Cannon had clashed as prosecutor and defendant over the claims of lying.
A wedding occurred on a Sunday in May at 10 30 a m officiated by J A Brown N P. The bride Miss Mary Maw is daughter of Mr Sam Maw of Central. The groom Mr John Stephens has been married before. Congratulations pour in from friends and family.
Bandits blew open a safe in a Southern Express Company office at Seneca last week, gaining access to contents and causing damage to the building. Police investigated the burglary and sought leads.
