Old Soldiers Meeting at Cross Roads Church May 6
The May 6 gathering at Cross Roads church drew a large, well behaved crowd. About seventy five residents gathered at Pickens school house Thursday for a banquet honoring the victorious track team. Ladies prepared a multi course menu while Dr. J. J. County to pay 2000 dollars in lynching case
Clarendon county must pay 2000 dollars for the death of Marion Cantey under lynching statutes. The supreme court, with Associate Justice Hydrick writing, affirmed the judgment supported by all justices. Madison Cantey, a relative, filed suit last July to obtain exemplary damages for the lynching of Marion Cantey while being taken to jail after arrest for assault and battery with intent to kill.

Tragic Drowning of NineYearOld at Gasley Mill
Alice Sullivan nine year old daughter of Mr and Mrs J R Sullivan of Glenwood mill village Gasley drowned Sunday afternoon in a reservoir at the mill. She fell into a gear reservoir known as the crib wrick basin about ten feet square and eight feet deep used as an outlet for pipes to the mill. Her body was recovered by a hook and efforts to revive her failed. The parents mourn with many friends in their bereavement.
