A farmer with an express package declines a dealer’s sales pitch. The tale argues that advertising in the home paper keeps money at home and helps town development. It also touches on fashion, moral hints, and social quips about honesty and society.

Beginning May 1 a 7 percent penalty is added to all unpaid state and county taxes. Tax books close May 15 and after that date unpaid taxes go to the sheriff for collection.
