Singing Conventions In Liberty and Mountain View June Meetings

The Liberty township singing convention gathers at Carmel church on the third Sunday in June at 2 p m. An all day singing is planned at Mountain View church the same Sunday. Numerous singers and supporters from Easley Pickens Liberty Central and surrounding communities are urged to attend.

On Monday June 8 in Pickens county court thirty-one pleas of guilty were entered with no jury trials. Most cases involved liquor law violations. Sentences ranged from one month to nine months or fines up to $250. Several defendants received suspended portions during good behavior.

Deserter Captured After Escape From Camp Sevier

Russell Hale of Camp Sevier Aviation Corps was arrested in Pickens by Rural Policeman B. B. LaBoon and Officer Hl. A. Nealy after fleeing arrest. He rode in a stolen Oakland Six, traced to H. Lindsay of Greenville. Hale, a Michigan native, faces desertion charges.
