Court Convened Monday Morning in Pickens County
The summer term of Pickens county court opened with Judge Mauldin presiding and new stenographer F H Anderson present. The State v L L Hendricks for murder and the State v Marshall Summey for killing Dewey Dobson dominated attention. Summey was found not guilty after a long trial. The Grand Jury presented final presentment urging a $2500 fireproof vault and an audit committee to review county officers, with further reports due next term.

County Democratic Committee Sets Club Reorganization and Campaign Dates
The County Executive Committee outlined new enrollment rules from the State Convention of May 1914. Clubs must reorganize within 10 days and appoint officers and committeemen. Campaign meetings are scheduled across Easley, Liberty, Central, Six Mile, Cateechee, Antioch, Pumpkintown, Dacusville, and Pickens from August 6 to 22. The enrollment committee details will appear in the next issue. The committee will reconvene on June 11 at 10 am. all members are urged to attend.

Mrs. M G Prince and child visit Laurens relatives this week. An ice cream festival was held on Mr R Miles lawn Saturday night. A little girl visitor at Mr KE B Kenne more's brought the broadest smile. Mr D B Cobb donated a birthday bank to the Baptist Sunday school. Blanch Sentell and Martha Orr of Greenville visited Glenwood friends last Sunday. Glenwood beat Liberty 6 to 2 at Glenwood Saturday.

Empress of Ireland Sinks After Collier Collision
The Canadian Pacific liner Empress of Ireland sank in the St Lawrence after a midships collision with the Danish collier Storstad. Of 1,267 aboard, about 934 are believed dead or missing. survivors mostly from crew and steerage. Rescue boats Eureka and Lady Evelyn saved 399, but many first cabin passengers perished. notable names include Laurence Irving and Sir Henry Seton Kar.

Strike at Easley Cotton Mill Shuts Weave Room in Pickens
The Sentinel reports the first known strike at a Pickens county cotton mill occurred at Easley mill when about 100 weave room workers quit, leaving only six. One week earlier a machine jam caused partial shutdowns, with ten employees discharged and many leaving, possibly prompted by I W W influence.
