Explosion at Krebs Mine Traps Workers Below Ground
Report from Krebs Osage Coal and Mining Company says a massive explosion at shaft No 5 last evening trapped about 100 workers. Debris sealed the shaft mouth delaying rescue as officials estimate many lives lost or severely injured and a house to house tally is underway. The scene drew grieving families while survivors climbed out or were recovered amid fires and wreckage. Nearby reports note additional political patronage changes in Washington and a separate Alabama affair with Sims gang violence. Severe UK snowstorms threaten rail and telegraph lines with heavy drifts and stranded trains across Britain.
