German advance drives civilians from eastern towns
A German push from East Prussia toward Kovno and Grodno appears aimed at cutting Warsaw rail links rather than seizing Russian fortifications. Fights occur along the Plock to Niemen corridor as populations flee toward highways and rails. German detachments near Augustowo press toward Grodno and Bialystok, with the Niemen marshes and river easing or hindering movements depending on thaw.
