County hopefuls gathered at Easley City Hall for the first campaign meeting of the season. Speakers, including E I Looper and J T McKinney, outlined platforms on taxes, roads, and county offices amid rain dampening attendance.
The Pickens County registration lists 3563 voters eligible for the upcoming primary, down from 1916 and 1914 figures. Officials blame many young men serving in the army and navy. A table compares 1916 and 1918 registrations with the 1916 official vote by precincts.
A Pickens county senatorial campaign meeting will be held at Pickens courthouse next Friday starting about 11 o clock. The gathering draws large crowds after campaigns in Piedmont. Unexpired term candidates: Benet of Columbia Pollock of Cheraw and Peeples. Long term candidates: Cole L. Blease Dial of Laurens and James I. Rice of Anderson.
United States Senate candidate L. Blease will address audiences at Pickens courthouse August 22 at 11 o clock and at Easley at Rigo on the same date. Everyone is invited to attend. further developments will be published.
Grant Brothers, noted threshermen from Pickens county, used a Ford automobile as motive power to run their threshing machinery for Judge M. Welborn. They jacked up the rear of Col. John Henry to connect to the thresher and completed about 160 bushels of oats in roughly two hours.
Congressman Fred H. Dominick was the sole speaker at the Dickens meeting last Wednesday August 7. He touted saving taxpayers 500000 by striking a bill section and accused G P Hill of False reporting as he defended his record and wartime support. James P. Carey Jr reports Pickens Bank and Post Office sold 18 072 in War Saving Stamps, unaccounted in last week's estimate. Adding to 15 404 previously reported, Pickens township total becomes 33 667, placing it second in the county behind Central.

The union meeting at the Central area, hosted by the Presbyterian and Baptist churches, began last Sunday at 11 o clock with Rev Thiott absent due to prior engagement. Engineer-preacher D J Fant preached the opening sermon to a large crowd. Rev Thiott attended the Sunday night service and delivered a stirring sermon. Nearby residents are urged to attend the 10 30 a m and 2 30 p m services as the meeting shows strong promise. J N Morgan left for Detroit to spend several vacation days. D W Ramseur Aubrey Ramseur Mr Hughes and Mr Fulkerson of Greensboro spent the weekend with Postmaster C G Rowland. The Ramseurs are relatives of Mrs Rowland. Mack Morgan of Durham visited last weekend. Mr and Mrs J P Gassaway and daughter Bettie left for Brevard to enjoy several days in the Western North Carolina highlands. Miss Mary Morgan of Atlanta, who had been in Blue Ridge NC, stopped here on her way home to visit her brother I Bb Morgan.
The Couch Stepall reunion united about 250 members of two families at Rock Springs near Easlow last Saturday. Ph P McCravey and others gave addresses, a large dinner was served, and the day featured social conversation.
