The June War Savings drive shows Pickens County towns totaling about one third of the government quota. County leaders urge every citizen to buy stamps at post offices banks and local stores before December 81 1918 to meet and exceed the allotted quota.
All dealers who resell to other dealers must obtain a license from the United States Food Administration. Sam B. Craig, Food Administrator for Pickens County, offers assistance at his office with no charges for the licenses.
The United States Civil Service Commission announces an exam in Easley on August 24 1918 to fill a rural carrier post and future vacancies in Pickens County South Carolina. Mrs. Mary E. Gilstrap died at her daughter Mrs. R A Gravley’s home on Little Mastatoe July 22 of dropsy at age eighty five years two months eighteen days. She is buried at New Friendship Methodist church beside her husband. She leaves eight children forty three grandchildren fifty four great grandchildren and one great great grandchild. She was a member of New Friendship church and described as a true Christian woman.
John L. McLaurin remains on the state ballot for governor after a week in which he released friends from voting obligations. The move preserves a path for supporters to cast ballots for his principles.

She leaves her husband and five children, four sons and one daughter, and siblings S. M. Hinton of Greenville R. A. Hinton of Easley Mrs. Mary Brown of Pickens Mrs. Sarah Sullivan of Greenville and Mrs. Creese McCue near Cedar Rock. She was the daughter of Samuel Hinton and was 34 years old.

Reese Bowen, aged 49, died at his sister Mrs. W. T. Tompson's home in Snyder Texas. A son of John Y. Bowen and the late Reese Bowen, he had lived in New Mexico for fifteen years accumulating a large fortune with extensive land and cattle. He was injured in an automobile accident last spring and never fully recovered.
Hurricane Township announces a singing convention to convene at Twelve Mile camp ground on the first Sunday in August at 2 30 in the afternoon with local residents urged to attend.
