A wartime elegy depicts a young soldier, beloved and mourned, laid to rest as bells toll for the brave. The poem recalls a mother's grief, a sister’s devotion, and a community’s sorrow over the youth who died in battle. The speaker notes the childlike features, blue eyes, and the kiss laid upon the dusty grave, asking for solace in prayer.
On Saturday the 17th, locals organized the Pickens District Bible Society as an auxiliary to the American Bible Society. Rev. Mauspen elected president with a secretary to be named, and the group outlined its aims, dues, and officer structure in articles of incorporation.
Capt Horcoman, secretary and treasurer, presides over a meeting where Col J J Nowroy Rev Joan Owens Dr J R Parken W J Hucurs and Capt W IL Ioscomne were chosen to form the Executive Committee. Any sum makes one a member. Books available from Capt Horcoman. District branches may form at churches or sections and the committee will assist efforts. MAULDUN chairman RON R? A Thompson secretary.
