The Long Pistol Law Applies July First

Columbia May 24 The Cooper law passed in 1901 curbs pistol carrying and sales after July 1 1902 prohibiting any pistol under twenty inches in length or three pounds in weight. Violations carry fines from one hundred dollars to thirty days imprisonment with proceeds to the county school fund. The act exempts peace officers and on their premises. Amendments at the recent General Assembly aim to remove ambiguities.
