A historical poem laments feudal class, praising reason and poverty’s impending uplift. It argues lawless force fades, wealth must be challenged, and true nobility rests in mind and humanity rather than birth or rank. The call urges oppressed readers to seek enlightenment, reject servility, and uphold virtue.
The Grand Jury of Pickens District requests immediate repair of roads and bridges, notes courthouse and jail needs, urges restraint on grain distillation, and proposes relocating the court house or redrawing district lines. They call for orderly obedience to law, fair treatment of freedmen, and gratitude to local officials for their service.
The court requires enforcement of the Act by prosecuting all persons who distill without the required license and notifies reporting of actions at the next term. Also ordered to copy the command regarding the Court House location to the local Senator and Representatives in the General Assembly. FP. J. Moses, March 22, 1866.
