The New York World reports Judge Nelson examines James Hagan, a South Carolina farmer tried by a Military Commission at Albany after the Civil War. The court questions martial law authority, cites constitutional limits, and notes South Carolina civil courts were functioning seven months after surrender. The decision hinges on whether martial authority overridden state judiciary for the murder convict.

The next annual meeting site was contested among Henderson Millersburg New Liberty Owensboro and Louisville with Henderson winning 74 to 41. Dr Crawford of Georgetown was chosen to preach the introductory sermon.
