Fire Devastates Southwestern Arizona Corral and Town
A major blaze swept the M clock PF area in the extreme southwest corner of Monthan Corral, owned by Demarchaix & Sanders. The fire, fueled by dry conditions and lacking water, destroyed hay lofts, sheds, offices, and stock buildings across a 200 by 137 foot area, with losses to Messrs Demarchaix & Sanders about $6,000 and property damages exceeding $8,000 overall. The corral owner J. D. Monihon insured for $2,000. The post office and several businesses were evacuated, and residents urged to form a fire company and improve water access to prevent future disasters. The origin remains uncertain, with suspicions of incendiary activity.
