Sunday Fires Threaten Boarding House Fire
A Sunday fire at Mrs. S. E. Kelsoe’s boarding house at 820 North Second Avenue, amid strong winds, was contained by quick action and a stone garden hose. Fire originated near the kitchen stove with water poured from below and above, neighbors removing furniture as flames were beaten back. The alarm subsided before the fire department arrived, with a second alarm later that evening extinguished before crews reached the scene. Nearby sparks from Joe Holland’s East Adams residence also raised alarm, but a bucket of water soon settled matters.
