Canal plans push in Salt River Valley irrigation scheme
Attorney General Churchill discusses the Arizona Canal Company project to export water from the Salt River near Mount McDowell. The canal will stretch about 50 miles, cost 350 000 to 500 000 dollars, cover 26 000 acres, and deliver 50 000 inches of water with a 36 to 56 foot bottom to top width. About four miles are finished, seven more partly built, and the headworks contract is held by W. J. Murphy. The venture promises cheaper irrigation for existing canals, fertile desert lands turned fertile, and strong health benefits in the Salt River Valley with farming expected to be highly profitable.
