Travel Week Brief From the Arizona Territory

Travel notes from Friday's Daily report Judge Alsap returning from Tucson, local alfalfa cuttings, health measures burning tar, new ice cream saloon at B Ton, fruit prices, rental changes, and several town events. No new smallpox cases. city delinquent list issued

From Saturday report in El Progreso No 8 on time this week notes no new smallpox cases for several days. The city issues its delinquent tax list today. Miss Brill, sister to the porter at Goldman’s, arrived today. Mrs N Herrick and Mrs Kroeser depart for Los Angeles. Judges Hereford Hoover and Lovell form a Tucson law firm. Judge Lewis of San Francisco visits Tombstone for mining matters.

Indian Outrage at Tempe Prompts Manhunt and Tense Plea

Sheriff Orme returned from a Tempe hunt for the Indians who attacked Sears and his wife on Wednesday. A posse joined him at Tempe then pressed the Sacaton Agency for surrender. The agent pledged to help and named the assailants, warning troops could be sent. Mrs Sears remains insensible, with little hope of recovery, and Mr Sears is badly wounded. Tempe residents threaten action if the guilty are not delivered.

Indian Prisoners Arrived After Sears Place Fight

Indian Agent Jackson arrived from the Pima agency with eleven of the Indians involved in the Sears place clash. Two others were too injured to move. Three wounded by shot were brought along. Jackson earned praise for persuading the men to surrender despite clear consequences. The skirmish appears to have been a large and violent dispute with both sides using clubs.

Elegant bath room at Phoenix Hotel for guests

A swimming tank costing over $200 and a full Roman bath style with plunge, shower, and sponge bathing, plus toilet arrangements, are ready for hot weather use. Mayer completes sale of Washington street frontage property

Mr E Mayer yesterday concluded the sale of the property now housing the French bakery and Chinese restaurant along Washington street. The front foot rate was 125 dollars, totaling 3000 dollars for the entire frontage. East adjacent owner De L I Goodrich is the buyer. The developer has long invested in town property, starting with the Back Exchange building erected in 1879.

Convened meeting outlines city election and nominations

A mass meeting at the courthouse drew interest in the upcoming town election. Dr. Wharton was chairman, J. H. McNeil secretary, and nominations for Mayor Tren. De Forest Porter and Geo. F. Coats were debated with Porter receiving 42 votes and Coats 47. Council and City Marshal nominations followed amid declines and ballots. Cyclone and other distant notices appear in a late column.

Notable Apache kidnapping and vigilante violence report

Dispatches from Albuquerque report that Apache fighters captured Prof. A. F. Bandelier and two others near San Cristobal Sonora. Prisoners were taken into the mountains and likely murdered, with Bandelier known for decades of Indian antiquities research in New Mexico and Arizona.
