Question Looms Over Subsidy for Railways in Provincial Assembly

Mining shipments and ore movements across Granby region

Granby mines ship about large tonnage daily with ore moving to Greenwood smelter from Snowshoe Bodie mine ore hauled across the line to Midweay for Greenpod smelter. Timber from Old Iron sides will be used for towerlig timber at Victoria and Old Tronsides mines. Surface ore at Kino Mii raise continues toward the surface.

Rambler Mine Near Eholt Reports Improving Prospects

Diamond drill results show ore below the one hundred foot level at the Rambler near Eholt. About a dozen men are employed. Recent assay from three sacks of surface ore yielded about 15 dollars per ton, mainly in gold, indicating strong prospects.

Delegates Chosen for Kaslo Trade Assembly

The Phoenix Board of Trade held a special Tuesday evening meeting to decide on sending delegates to the fourth annual meeting of the Associated Boards of Trade of Southeastern British Columbia in Kaslo on the 26th inst. Thomas J. Hardy chaired in President Rumberger’s absence as secretary read notices and outlined objects of the gathering.

Vernon and Nelson Telephone Lines to Be Rebuilt

Vermont and Nelson telephone company plans extensive improvements in Boundary and West Kootenay. General manager H Y Kent and district supervisor George C Hodge report lines and offices in good condition but announce a spring program to install metrical circuits, build a new main line on Dominion Avenue, relocate the central office, and remove unused old lines. The company aims for greater efficiency and may own its building.

Improving facilities double tracking at several mines

The Granby Mines policy under Superintendent Williams doubles main track at the 200 and 300 foot levels of the Old Ironsides and Victoria mines to speed ore removal and timbering. A prior double tracking at Knob Hill has paid for itself, with capacity to ship 1,060 tons daily if other machinery fails. The move is part of broader underground improvements to enhance mine development and output.

Golden Crown mine sees new ore body at Wellington camp

A Pioneer representative tours the Golden Crown mine in Wellington camp where Manager Duncanson oversees active development. At the 150-foot level a rich ore body was found and a crew is working on a new face near the east drift. Early shipments to Granby and Greenwood smelters are planned to test the ore.

Special Railway Rates for Winter Carnival and Sandon Bonspiel

The CPLR proposes a single fare from all Kootenay and Boundary points to Rossland for the winter carnival on Thursday Friday and Saturday February 21 77 with tickets valid those days and return by Monday February 24 Special rates also for the Sandon curling bonspiel starting Monday February 7 Fare terms apply for outsiders and group travel while the Dominion Cafe offers guidance for choosing meals.
