Drive Afoot To Move Apache County Seat
A drive to relocate Apache County seat from St. Johns to a southern town is under discussion in Round Valley with legal counsel. A petition must collect signatures equal to one third of gubernatorial votes to trigger an election, decided by a simple majority. Springerville and another southern town are named as possible new seats. County Attorney M W Gibbons calls the move likely to cause discord, noting similar moves occurred in Cochise County in the 1920s.
