The Senate Judiciary Committee voted 5 to 4 to invite Judge Sherman Minton for private questioning on his Supreme Court nomination. Acting Chairman Kilgore said Senator Ferguson moved for the appearance, seconded by Senator Donnell, as President Truman’s nominee seeks to succeed Justice Rutledge. Minton, 59, of the Seventh Circuit, was tied to Roosevelt’s age-based court-packing proposal from 1937, which foes labeled an attempt to pack the court.
