Bartlett Dam's Verde credit and forgotten canal tale

William H. Bartlett explains the Paradise-Verde Irrigation District's early, unpaid role in funding and planning Cave Creek Dam. The district helped finance surveys and bedrock tests, issued warrants for overages, and paid a share to Phoenix and Salt River Valley groups, yet water rights for Verde irrigation remain elusive. Bartlett Dam bears his name, while the old Paradise Valley canal was dug by mules and a long-gone Rio Verde Canal Co. The piece also muses on West quiet and local quirks.
