Eichelberger Sought In Vote Machine Case

The Gazette pursued John W. Eichelberger Sr. for information on the 200 voting machines contract awarded by Maricopa County Supervisors. Arizona border inspectors ordered into uniforms for first time

Arizona border inspection crews of 72 men will don forest green uniforms for the first time in state history. An old law requiring uniform dress was enacted along with a $15 monthly pay raise to cover clothing costs. The Legislature approved station upgrades with $130,000 for construction and $93,560 for raises, with new stations planned at Evrenberg, Kingman, Topock and Springerville and modernization at Lupton and Duncan. Remodeling of Fredonia, Apache, San Simon, Parker and Yunta stations is set for 1952 with another $105,000. The order to wear uniforms came in letters from the State Commission of Agriculture and Horticulture and the Motor Vehicle Division of the Highway Department.

El Paso Gas Tax Valuation Hike Spurned

Arizona county assessors rejected a plan by the Arizona Tax Commission to raise the El Paso Natural Gas Company’s assessed valuation from 1951 figures to about 74.5 million dollars.
