Search Fails To Find Lost Globemaster II Over Atlantic

In London on March 24, a large Allied search failed to locate the United States Air Force Globemaster II with 53 aboard after it disappeared in a storm 500 miles west of Ireland. More than 70 planes and ships scoured the North Atlantic for about 36 hours with no survivors seen. A Flying Fortress rescue craft returning to Shannon Airport reported the search futile.

MacArthur Offers Peace Talk and Orders Crossing 38

General MacArthur offered to discuss peace with the Korean conflict's Red commander and ordered UN troops to cross the 38th parallel if needed as allied forces push Reds from southern Korea. He spoke after declaring Korea south of 38% parallel substantially clear of enemy forces and flew to Seoul on his 14th front visit.

Europe Aliens To Get Chance At Citizenship

The army in Germany will enlist up to 2,500 refugees from behind the Iron Curtain under new legislation. Applicants must be 18 to 35, sign for five years, and pass strict reliability checks including English literacy. Enlistees will serve as privates, then be transferred to the United States for processing and training toward U.S. citizenship.

Passenger List Details After Air Crash Near Ireland Azores

Within hours of a B-29 crash between Ireland and the Azores an aerial search by 74 aircraft and ships continued at dawn. Reports of life-rafts lights and parachutes surfaced as crews reeled in hopeful debris finds. The carrier carried 44 passengers including Brig Gen Paul J. Ken and nine crew members. Cullen, deputy commander at Barksdale Air Base, was among the identified.

Three men armed or possibly armed attempted to force entry into gambler Frank Costello’s 18th floor Central Park view apartment in New York. They rode an elevator to the unit, failed to enter, fled on foot and in a car after discovering Costello was not home.

Auto Wreck Kills Tucson Man on Highway

One man died and two injured when a car went out of control and overturned 314 times about 35 west of Tucson on Highway. Carlos L Valencia 40 of Tucson died from a broken neck. Oscar Alamazas 25 and driver William Rivas 27, both of Tucson, were admitted to Pima County Hospital. The fatality raised Arizona's 1951 traffic death toll to 69, eight fewer than the previous year.
