16 year old Williams to stand trial for aunt slaying

Jimmy Williams, aged 16, must stand trial for the murder of his aunt Mrs. Virginia Langford at her home on September 26. Judge Dudley W. Windes ordered the trial to begin next Friday. Court-appointed attorney Clarence J. Duncan plans to introduce insanity evidence despite psychiatrists finding the youth capable.

Westside raid ends party with 29 youths corralled

Juvenile officers raided a westside home early this morning ending a beer party attended by 29 youths aged 14 to 17. Four participants were placed in the County Detention Home for a marijuana investigation. seven others were sent home. Eighteen others aged 18 to 22 were cited but not arrested. An 14-year-old hostess hosted the gathering. her father claimed permission for casual guests. Officers observed bottles on site after monitoring from 8:30 p.m. to 1 a.m. Judge Bernstein pondered charges, likely against adults.

Five Choice Events Fill Valley WeekendSchedule

Valley residents can choose from five Choice events this weekend. The Maricopa County Fair in Mesa closes tomorrow as Glendale hosts a rodeo with a 2 p.m. start. Dons Club offers a 40 mile hike to Lost Dutchman with 100 tickets left at $5. Wickenburg Round-Up Club runs a free tour to Vulture Mine departing 1 p.m. tomorrow. The Phoenix Model Air Club hosts a day long program at North Phoenix Airport starting 9 a.m. Admission is free. participants hail from the West Coast and several Arizona towns. Attendance is expected to reach about 40 000 at the fair and 5 000 for final events.
