Maria Urquides of Tucson urged about 50 Arizona teachers at the NEA convention to back a major drive to aid Southern Negro educators facing dismissal due to school integration. NEA leaders allocated 100000 from a contingency fund and set up a human rights subcommittee to defend educators. Ella Forman of Phoenix was elected Southwest regional director of the NEA Department of Classroom Teachers.

Field Worker Charged With Narcotics Seizure
Reuben A. Vargas, 30, of Tempe, arrested near Central and Durango by state narcotics agents. Officers say 17 cellophane bags containing marijuana totaling over 2000 dollars were found. Vargas faces two counts of illegal sale of narcotics.

Snake Bite Sends Victim and Snake to Hospital in Azusa
In Azusa California Landon Holt 39 was bitten on the left hand by a rattlesnake kept by Holt a snake breeder. Deputies said Holt was rushed to a local hospital in serious condition along with the snake. Doctors planned to milk the snake to gauge venom and antivenom needs.

Lone Boy Graduates From One Room School in Dulzura
Patrick N. Reid, 14, was the sole graduate of the 1965 Dulzura School District ceremony. The district, one of three remaining one room schools in San Diego County, plans to move grades five through eight to a nearby district next fall. Dulzura enrolled 23 pupils this year.

Business Manager Named Special Representative for Plumbers Union
Ray Sanders, business manager of Plumbers Local 469, is appointed special representative of the United Association of Journeymen and Apprentices. Anthony J. Kienstra will temporarily succeed him. an August election will choose a permanent manager. Sanders begins July 5 in Los Angeles and will organize for the union. He has served three terms on the executive board and came to Phoenix in 1935. He is a member of the state AFL-CIO and was formerly Phoenix Central Labor Council vice president and financial secretary since 1954.
