Five Die in Head-On Crash Near Buckeye Arizona
Four others were hospitalized after two cars collided head on three miles east of Buckeye. Victims include Ben Stevenson 50 and Orleta Stevenson 42 of La Mesa California and Esther Stevenson 13 their daughter. A 1941 coupe carrying three slammed into a 1951 sedan with six aboard. Gwen Nettleton 18 of Santa Margarita California died later at Memorial Hospital. Five total fatalities and nine injured in total.

The U S minesweeper Thompson anchored off Sasebo with three dead crewmen after a ship to shore artillery exchange with Communist guns off Korea. Three others wounded. Killed were Willis Devon Gregg of Elkhart Indiana National City California Boilerman John Creith of Lincoln Nebraska and Seaman Jose Gallegos of Canutillo Texas. The Thompson fired on a bridge on the highway leading inland after drawing fire from twin 3 inch guns about 120 miles south of the Russian border.
