Muddy waters dropped along a 200 mile stretch south of Alton Illinois while floodwaters poured into the river south of Cairo Illinois. The Missouri remained above flood stage from Boonville to St. Louis but was falling rapidly. Army Secretary Pace asked Congress for 37.775 million dollars for flood control emergency work construction and planning. St Louis area workers sprayed for flies and mosquitoes. Flood damage near Cape Girardeau topped a million with Ozark Airlines canceling flights as runways were endangered. St Charles Bridge approach pavement destroyed hindering land links to St Louis. About 4,000 workers drove 50 extra miles to the city for work. Private industry faced 12,645,000 tons of silt from the Kaw River flood. Cleaning up progress estimated at 40 percent with major streets open and utilities restoring. Carcasses of 7,500 livestock removed and abandoned vehicles cleared as 25,000 workers labored to restart industry.
