Boyle Denies Receiving Fee For RFC Loan
Washington July 26 AP Chairman William M Boyle Jr of the Democratic National Committee says he had nothing to do with negotiations for a 565000 government loan granted a St Louis firm on its fourth try. Boyle acknowledged he represented American Lithofold Corp in legal matters not connected with its RFC loan application. The Reconstruction Finance Corporation lent the firm the money in 1949 but no funds were advanced until Jan 6 1950. The loan was to mature Jan 6 1953 but was paid in full last Aug 30 after private financing was obtained. The St Louis Post-Dispatch said Boyle, a friend of President Truman, received 8000 from the company in monthly installments after the loan. Boyle said he said nothing about fees and severed relations with the firm when he took full-time duties in April 1949. He later became chairman of the DNC, with a 30000 annual salary. Senator Williams cited alleged morals of the administration.
