Prescott Traveler 10 Found Sleeping in Cattle Car

A 10-year-old Prescott boy Miles Peterson was found asleep in a straw-filled cattle car in a Phoenix railroad yard about 3 a.m. after riding from Prescott to visit his grandparents. Deputies traced the train from Denver and notified his parents, who planned to bring him home.

Californians Urged To Block Central Arizona Project Floor

Franklin Thomas, chair of California's Colorado River Board, urged California House members to keep the Central Arizona Project Bill off the House floor. The $700 million reclamation plan would use Colorado River water, which California says it needs, and remains stuck in committee despite Senate Interior action. The American British and French commandants in Berlin sent a joint protest to the Soviet commandant over a weekend Berlin blockade. Soviet inspections reduced western Germany supply truck traffic to a trickle as non military vehicles faced stringent document checks.

Alaskan Found Slain In Car Near Tucson

Alaska man Robert E. Turner about 55 was found dead in a parked car near Tucson with a revolver on his lap and a fatal brain wound. Deputy Emmett Newland called it murder, noting the hand position on the wheel and gun angle argue against self-inflicted death. Turner was identified by authorities as from Anchorage. Westerling declares war in West Java in Indonesian conflict

Renegade Dutch leader Capt. Paul Turk Westerling informally declares war on the Indonesian Republican army in West Java. He sends guerrilla forces to Jakarta, clashes erupt near government buildings, with at least seven reported dead. Westerling predicts three months of large scale fighting and says his aim is to remove Japanese influence from the TNI while denying he seeks a warlord role. His force previously seized Bandung and attacked a rail town, as UN observers cautioned a longer escalation.

Formosa Not Worth Occupying Say Joint Chiefs Quotes

The Republican senator Arthur Vandenberg of Michigan resigned today as a member of the Joint Congressional Atomic Energy Committee. A Navy Fury jet crashed in San Francisco Bay near Oakland Airport but the pilot swam to shore unharmed. Maricopa County could gain eight seats in the 1951 Arizona House of Representatives with Republicans possibly adding seven seats and Democrats four, due to legislative redistricting. Parley Seeks Way To Cut Death Toll

Governor Dan E. Garvey opened a two day Safety Conference at North Phoenix High School urging stricter enforcement and heavier penalties for traffic violators to lower Arizona’s fatality rate.
