Commission Stands Put On Premium Increases
The Arizona Industrial Commission refused to rescind a 1950 workmen’s compensation rate hike set to take effect January 1. A Phoenix Chamber of Commerce committee pressed for accountability, while the panel agreed to allow investigators to review the commission’s books and records limited to its 1948 annual report and a West Coast actuaries study. The meeting, led by Al Lindsey, sought to verify whether 1949 operations improved on 1948 when a $1,000,000 loss occurred, though officials could not determine the 1949 fund condition. The commission cited savings despite the 1948 shortfall, noting a surplus of about $1.6 million at year end.
