Jessup denies major split in Formosa policy
Dr. Philip C. Jessup, roving U S ambassador, says there are differences of opinion within the State and Defense departments over Formosa but no major interdepartmental conflict. He will discuss Formosa with Gen. MacArthur and reiterated U S policy to defend open door with China while avoiding entanglement. The administration plans to tell Congress that defending Formosa could trigger a shooting war. Dean Acheson defends hands off China policy next Tuesday.
