Flier Clings Outside Plane Lands Safely in Tampa Bay

A Eastern Air Lines crewman, flight attendant Marc Fisher-Galati, was swept from a DC-3 at 2000 feet over Tampa Bay. He gripped a door post and survived until the plane landed at Municipal Airport. The 28 year old wartime paratrooper was treated for shock and resumed the flight to Chicago. Co Pilot J S W Davis held one leg as the man clung to the door. Pilot H L Alford landed the craft eight to ten minutes later. The DC-3 was en route from Miami to Chicago.

Lone Gunmen Rob Two More Phoenix Businesses

Two downtown Phoenix firms were robbed within an hour around midnight by armed gunmen. One crook escaped with $4 from a Drive-In Liquor Store and the other with $7719 from a separate outfit. This marked the fourth and fifth armed robberies in the valley since Wednesday morning, after The Bank of Douglas yielded $116,250 in a prior heist. Police logged additional street thefts including $600 reported stolen from Golden Meat Packing Company nearby.

Four held for questioning in Douglas bank robbery case

Four Phoenix African Americans were arrested in Los Angeles for questioning in connection with the $116,250 Bank of Douglas holdup. A .45 auto was found in the car at a roadblock and FBI warned Fox Leaders and Rangers for a possible $1,000 reward. Investigators noted a galvanized mop pail used to carry loot was missing from the bank.

Staff Chiefs Preview Grand Story On Pacific Unification

Secretary of Defense Louis Johnson said the joint chiefs will disclose on Monday a grand story on unification of American defense in the Pacific. He noted savings of 6 to 10 million dollars from on the spot actions consolidating island installations during a 10 day Pacific tour. The chiefs reported to President Truman after touring Japan Okinawa Guam and Hawaii and later briefed Johnson at the White House. A news conference is planned with much of the report kept confidential.

Moderate Bolivia centered quake rattles region

An International News Service report notes a moderate earthquake recorded today probably centering in Bolivia. In Kansas City a former aide of Gen. Mark Clark, Maj. John J. Luther Jr., was found shot to death in his car in the Fairfax District under mysterious circumstances. Hong Kong papers report large Chinese Communist forces massed for an invasion of Hainan. Dartmouth denies readmittance to eight students suspended after a dormitory brawl linked to the March death of Raymond Cirrotta of Linden, N. J.

Union Told To Drop Four Illeg​al Demands

Trains Collide in Southern France Killing Twenty

Dad Dies In Flames While Rescuing Daughters

Fort Worth February 11 AP A father police officer James Warren 48 perished in a pre dawn fire while saving his two daughters Jimmie 12 and Nancy 9 from their burning home. He entered through flames to reach them and all three died later in hospital. His wife and Grace 16 escaped outside after fearing the others had fled. Warren served as a city policeman since 1927.
