The Encyclopaedia Britannica Collection of Contemporary Paintings will stay at the Fine Arts Building State Fair grounds until Feb. 12. Loaned by Senator William Benton of Connecticut, the exhibit marks the tour's final stop after five years on the road. Attendance reached a daily average of 127 paintings viewed by about 750 people since opening last Sunday, with 1,194 visitors yesterday the peak day. The works showcase American life and notable pieces include Darrel Austin's Cub and Insect, Edward Hopper’s Cape Cod Evening, Ernest Fiene’s January, Salvador Dali’s Maffiona, James Chapin’s Batter Up, Luigi Lucini’s Trees and Mountains, and Frederick J. Waugh’s March North Atlantic. School groups have shown strong interest as well. Over 200 visited within an hour of opening Thursday. The previous high was 1,062 on Wednesday. Phoenix Fine Arts Association and Valley National Bank sponsor. Hours are 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily.
