Fire district ruling tests both abolition and creation
Superior Court Judge Fred C. Struckmeyer Jr ordered the county supervisors to fund operating costs for the Wilson Volunteer Fire Company. Deputy county attorney F. Haze Burch said an appeal would not stop the action, which followed the judge's order. Struckmeyer voided a recent election to disband the Wilson District and required five hearings to meet his findings, ruling the abolition law vague and unenforceable. Rayburn noted a pending suit will test the constitutionality of both organizing and abolishing volunteer fire companies.
