An old wooden coach on the Sakuragicho line near Yokohama burned after a dangling power line touched the roof. Washington April 24 The government granted 276000 retail stores a 30 day extension to May 30 to implement new margin type price ceilings. Price Director DiSalle said retailers must file pricing charts to set ceilings at the base period high for goods. Extension aims to let stores re price items under Regulation 7 covering apparel shoes furniture and more.
Fire-scarred slopes of the old Tillamook burn were being swept for the fourth time in 15 years as flames spread over 2,000 acres of salvage timber and tinder-dry undergrowth.

CHICAGO April 24 AP Gen Charles Gates Dawes banker and statesman former vice president under Coolidge from 1925 to 1929 died last night of coronary thrombosis at his Evanston home. Dawes, 5-year-old by error, led a long public life, chaired City National Bank and Trust, helped create the Dawes Plan and directed the Reconstruction Finance Corporation. He was also an author and composer, famed for his WWI service and the Hell n Maria remark before a War Department inquiry.
Two men are believed killed in an early morning automobile accident on Highway 89 about 100 miles north of Flagstaff. The Coconino County Sheriff's office received the report around 7:30 a.m. Only one car was involved and Highway Patrolman Lloyd Robertson is investigating. Victims have not been identified.
