Kenneth Essery, 24, confessed to killing four members of the Shockley family and wounding others at Shockley farm four miles southeast of Conway Missouri in a revenge spree sparked by his claim that they disliked him. He said he remembered shooting Bill Shockley and later killed Helen Shockley, her mother Martha Ellen Shockley, and William’s wife Clara. The killings occurred as Essery fired 14 shots at a fleeing couple. Helen died while attempting to telephone relatives for help. He was seized at his father’s home after confessing to Sheriff Cunningham.
