Thousands gathered at the Academy of Music to condemn police political influence and demand impeachment or resignation of corrupt officials amid a citywide crisis. Ex mayors, clergy, judges, and civic leaders urged unity to restore public safety and end political police meddling.

A 50000 dollar gift from George W. Brackenridge enables Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons to admit women on equal standing starting September 1917. Dean Samuel A. Reginald Calender 27 of 1909 Catharine street was arrested on aggravated assault with attempt to kill charges after he allegedly shot Michael McLaughlin 46 of 2601 Naudain street near 23rd and Adaline streets. McLaughlin is hospitalized in stable condition. Calender is jailed on $1,000 bail.
Newark plans a silent protest parade on October 4 with thousands expected. Prominent citizens named to lead include Rev. William J. Jones as president and Dr. George E. Cannon as chairman of the executive committee.
Governor Cox halted a decision on Illinois claims against Dr. Leroy Bundy of Cleveland son of Rev Bundy the A M E minister. Bundy faced charges of supplying arms to Black troops during the East St Louis riot and the case was reportedly closed with no immediate ruling forthcoming.
Bids for the new industrial and normal school approved by the Legislature will be received until October 5. The project requires at least 100 acres of land. the land must meet the specified Bantle requirements.
Chesire Conn Sept 25 opening of Chesire County Club with 200 plus colored members highlights a large self run facility. Clubhouse veranda parlor billiard rooms and tennis courts form a year round social center near Waterbury and New Haven with a golf course planned and ministry opposition noted.
For the first time in the city, prominent colored citizens join the push for a clean municipal government. At a town meeting at the Academy of Music last Thursday, 1006 men donated one dollar each to cover meeting expenses. Chris J. Perry led the committee of one hundred.
On Tuesday evening the Murray organization held an executive session and listened to a speech on business and racial interests at the YMCA building. The association voted to hold a public meeting at Zion Baptist church soon while reporting strong progress in its first year.
Prom inent G A R men filed a protest with the President over the style of exemption buttons under the conscription law. They argue the button resembles the G A R badge and old veterans oppose decorating men seeking to avoid service with a similar emblem.
Pittsburgh reporter notes Arthur Lockett a 30 year old Black man under indictment for taking part in the East St. Louis riot was arrested after bragging he killed four men. The boast led to his capture last week.
Bethel A. M. E. church in Pottstown reports engaging services with Rev. Dr. Stansberry's sermon on Jeremiah 6 16 and Rev. Br. Parsons from John 8 36 on Christian Freedom. Dr. Alfonso Deleon departs for Boston to practice medicine. Mr. Merriman returns from York after a grand G U OF O F convention. Mrs. Stansberry continues recovery.
New York September 22 The National Equal Rights League convened its tenth annual meeting at Mother Zion church on West 136th Street with 200 delegates. They called for federal crime status for lynching and for enforcement of the 14th and 16th Amendments, plus anti segregation measures in interstate travel and federal territory. Delegates from several states elected officers and planned a December National Liberty Congress in Washington, D.C. to present race grievances to federal authorities. The conference endorsed a race migration appeal and prepared for an ongoing migration and labor advocacy across the nation.
Baltimore report says colored branch site bought for a 100000 YMCA building is for sale after white residents on McCulloh Street objected to any portion of the project on that street and threatened lawsuits. Corner of McCulloh and Dolphin streets is the location, with main entrance planned on Dolphin Street.
In Coatesville Pennsylvania on September 26, local residents report Mr. Chas. P. Hood ill and bedridden, with friends wishing him a speedy recovery. Mrs. Flossie Breyn Green of Baltimore visits her mother and brother, while Master Leslie Peach shows improvement after illness. Church activities unfold with Tabernacle and Second Baptist youth programs, Rev. Alexandre and Rev. Weatherly delivering sermons, and St Pauls A. M. E. and U. A. M. E. churches hosting services. Community members attend the Reading fair, move to a new home, and prepare heat installations for the new building as plans progress.
The Men's Organized Bible Class of the First African Baptist church held a banquet after a program in the Sunday school auditorium. Mr A A She and Mr Willis Cromwell presided. The pastor and church officials spoke, praising the event.
