In Dawi's Athenia a contractor named William J. Robinson overcomes official resistance and delays to secure a permit and complete exhibition buildings for the Emancipation Proclamation project. Despite doubts, his persistence and skill transform a barren site into a landmark complex.
Philadelphia speakers at a public exhibition discussed housing conditions for the colored population. Dr R W Bailey presented an illustrated lecture with nurse demonstrations on pure food air and water and cleanliness. Dr R R Wright presided as the event showcased medical topics and dental care.
The annual convention ended with Kansas City selected as the 1914 meeting venue. W R F Priebe reports the egg trade totals one billion dollars yearly with seventy five million dollars worth broken in transit. Harry Dowie of New York was elected president.
Returns early this morning show Acting Governor Fielder leading Katzenbach by about 10,000 for the Democratic nomination with Mercer County backing Katzenbach and Princeton Borough supporting Fielder. Former Governor Stokes wins the Republican nomination by a large margin while Colby edges Osborn for the Progressive nod. Hudson County favors Fielder by over 15,000 with ex-Judge Robert Carey and Stokes also polling strongly there.
Spartanburg S C September 20 William Fair a colored man cleared at a special term of court in an alleged assault case. The accuser testified she was followed along a woodland path to a farmhouse scene but defense argued her account was hallucination and evidence supported that view.
Ardmore Pa Sept 22 William A Lewis faced a hearing before Squire Lewis Bryn Mawr on a disinterment charge at Merion Cemetery. He defended himself claiming cemetery foreman misfiled a grave then corrected it while Lewis was absent in Philadelphia. Borough authorities could not locate the foreman and sought a $100 fine, which Lewis refused to pay, appealing to Norristown Court. G Edward Dickerson of Philadelphia represented Lewis.
The Ambassador returns to the Academy of Music for a Thursday evening performance on November 6 following public demand.
A large delegation from the Eighth Ward settlement and the Zion Cadet Band cheered W. W. Frazier as campers broke camp after eleven weeks. A special car was arranged for the party to travel to and from the country.
Special to The Tribune reports Camp Frazier at Happy Land ended a successful eleven week encampment in Paper Mills. On Gala day a delegation of sixty five youths led by Zion Boys Cadet Band arrived by special car. They presented a picture keepsake to Mr. Frazier as thanks for a pleasant summer outing.
Miss May Maria Good daughter of Mr and Mrs Aaron Good and Earl George Keyser of Canandaigua New York were married at the First Colored Lutheran Church Easton on Thursday evening The ceremony was officiated by Rev F K Fretz A large crowd attended The bridal party included Miss Ida Butler maid of honor Miss Mann Prime matron of honor and several bridesmaids The reception followed at Vanderveer Hall with Wagner's Orchestra providing music The couple honeymooned then settled in Canandaigua New York with generous gifts and a long list of out of town guests from Philadelphia Newark Reading Harrisburg and beyond
Louis Kuehnle longtime boss of Atlantic City lost control in yesterday’s primaries as former mayor Harry Bacharach and State Senator Walter E. Edge won key posts. Kuehnle urged voters to back Lewis Glenn for county clerk in a first ever direct appeal. He claimed leadership was being challenged by rivals seeking to replace him.
