Fred Jones 24 of 237 South Darien St. was killed in France while serving with Company B 372nd Infantry. A native of the city and raised in the 5th Ward, he was a longtime member of the 5th Ward Settlement House clubs and was known as Chinco for his Chinese appearance. He left in May and his death on July 1 was reported later. he leaves a widow and an 18 month old daughter. He was the first from the city’s race to fall in the war.
