Acting Lieutenant Clayton Wilson of the Front and Master streets station resigned by request to take effect September 30. He had served over forty six years as street sergeant. The demand followed an investigation into the death of George Nixon a colored prisoner who arrived intoxicated but later showed a battered skull and died hours after admission to St Marys Hospital. Direct or said Wilson had no direct role but should have ensured medical care. The injuries are now believed to have been from a fall or assault by highwaymen.
