Self defense wins murder acquittal in Negro press report
In Shelby County Memphis Tech Brown alias Jones alias Paka, accused of killing Eugene Polk on May 8 1921, was acquitted after evidence showed Polk attacked with a drawn knife and Brown pleaded for mercy. Despite defense obstacles and racial prejudice the jury verdict favored Brown in Judge Tom Harsh's court.

Refusal to Allow Klan Members on Jury Cited by Judge
In Chicago a judge ruled that Ku Klux Klan members are not fit to serve as jurors in a case involving Joseph Sanford, a colored plaintiff from the 1919 race riot era. The judge stated no Klan member can sit in any U S court. During questioning, three jurors admitted prejudice against religion or race.

James Francis Rickards Dead at 33rd Degree M L Grand Leader
Sir James Francis Rickards former member of Parliament and senior grand commander died after a yearlong illness.
