The Downingtown Industrial and Agricultural School prepares for May 29 commencement at 2 PM in Penn Hall. Despite devastating fires, three new buildings rise, including Penn Hall, funded by a goal of 35000 and 3000 for water and fire protection.
Under War Department orders Col. William Hayward has detailed 25 men from the 15th Regiment to Plattsburg Officers Training. They will receive $100 per month while in training as officers for the regular army.
Memphis residents describe a mob attack near Boulevard and Beale Avenue at 1 a.m. Tuesday. An automobile occupant shouted insults and hurled a severed head and body parts at colored men, while authorities took charge of the scene and the evidence.
A large Bible class gathering celebrated the closing program with contests and an address by Mrs. Shannon. Refreshments served. donations and supplies requested include table napkins cloth tumblers a silver pitcher and a water bottle.

Kansas City Mo May 22 Henry P Ewing large tomato grower in Kaw Valley distributed 10000 tomato plants at Kaw Point farm on the 20th. Each family received about two dozen plants with the best varieties represented.
Mr Welford A Gordon 2124 One Street was attacked by a group of young white ruffians while waiting for a car on Saturday at 845 PM near West Philadelphia. No provocation noted and no officer appeared during the incident. Police at 12th and Pine St station were notified and an investigation promised.
Members of Musicians' Protective Union Local 691 AF of L hosted a first annual concert and reception at Waltz Dream Hall on Tuesday. Soloists Sterling Rex Mayme Fletcher Joshua Saddler and Danceland Orchestra led by Charlie Taylor entertained amid strong audience applause and a large dance segment. The union, organized in 1916 for protection of local musicians, is headquartered at 15th Street.
New York City May 22 The Springarn medal gold valued at 100 for 1916 was awarded to Harry T Burleigh the great singer and composer. Burleigh ranks as one of the greatest composers and singers not only of the race but of America. His Deep River has appeared on more concert programs than any other high class composition in the country. This medal is given annually to the colored American achieving the greatest success along lines of uplift.

Peter Finney 20 from Virginia was struck and killed by a locomotive while walking to a May 23 shift on the Penna Railroad. The body was shipped home. Local socials include Marguerie Harrod’s birthday and dinners hosted by Miss Myrtle Stewart and Elsie Holland.

A mob of at least 7,000 in Memphis torched Eli Persons a colored man linked to the murder of 16 year old Antoinette Rappal. Leaders chained him to a log, covered him with a steel cage, saturated his clothes in oil, and set him alight while the crowd cheered. police did not intervene and the mob then aimed to seize two other alleged participants.
Zoar Church in North Philadelphia reports Sunday preaching by Dr. F Butler and a full members welcome for Mr. and Mrs. Anderson. Sunday school drew large attendance at 2 30 pm. Dover May 24. Governor of Delaware names a committee of colored men to advise on methods to stimulate colored enthusiasm during the world crisis. Members include Dr W C Jason Dr W M Henry J Boykin Aiken A B Ruffin and others from Dover Wilmington Middletown and Ridgeville. The group backs equal chances to farm or fight and vows full effort to secure opportunities for all colored men in the state.
