The widow Susan E. Deyo aged 67 was buried in Poughkeepsie after services at Smith Street B. Z. Church. She was born in Peekskill, daughter of Hawley and Harriet Green, married James E. Deyo in Havre de Grace, and resided here until moving after his death. Survivors include her brother Green of Syracuse and relatives, with executors Grant Williams and W. Grant Williams.

The Tuskegee Summer School opens June 12 for six weeks through July 21 1916 under Director E C Roberts. Last year 437 teachers from fifteen states attended including Jeanes Supervisors and rural teachers. Courses cover literary reviews, advanced studies, methods, education, business practice, physical training, crafts, sewing, domestic science, canning, manual training, and agriculture. Bordentown N J May 15 The spring term of the Manual Training and Industrial School will close May 29 A special feature will be made of the summer term which will begin June 6 and close August 29 The work of the summer will be conducted much on the lines as the work was during the winter except that academic work will be largely instruction The object will be to advance each student as fast as possible and to strengthen him where he is weak Students over fourteen years of age will be accepted for the summer who may not intend to remain for the fall term which begins September 15 For example a boy or girl may be admitted after the close of the Public schools and return to the school in September Parents residing in New Jersey can readily see the advantage of sending their children to the Bordentown School for the summer at a time when the allurements of the street during the long vacation months often counteract the training of the whole year.

Baxter Appointed City Highway Inspector in 30th Ward
Robert A. Baxter of 726 South 17th Street was named highway inspector on May 10 at a salary of 1200 a year. Located in the Second district, he becomes the first colored inspector from the 30th ward, endorsed by City Treasurer Wm. McCoach for 20 years of party service. Dr W Bruce Evans Loses His Fight in DC Court
Washington May 14 The court rules it has no authority to review the Board of Education decision removing Dr W Bruce Evans for inefficiency. Evans, a long time educator, rose to principal at Armstrong Manual Training School and directed night schools. He organized work and manual training across nine Maryland and Virginia counties and helped establish industrial and household arts courses at Miner Normal School. The 1915 report cited his service in initiating a school and community work unit now a popular feature of education.

Philadelphia residents backed two municipal loan measures for transit and port improvements and general city maintenance. The transit port loan passed 137 672 to 40 383, a 97 589 majority, and the general improvement loan 129 21 for to 42 526 against, an 88 296 majority.
