Law firm of George H. White exposes questionable land deals by Egg Harbor Boom Committee in Philadelphia. Letter dated April 17 1913 cites defective deeds and lack of title for multiple parcels. demands full refund for several buyers and warns public.
Simon P McDonald a well known tenor and Time Keeper at Barrett Mfg Co died in Frankford Hospital after a weeks long illness. An accident on April 26 when he jumped to ride a wagon tailboard caused a fall and a brain concussion leading to his death. Funeral services were held at Zion M E Church Friday at 11 o clock.
The Rev W H Harris returns to Pearl Street church from the conference. The Odd Fellows annual sermon was preached by Rev J E Sargeant. A reception honored Mary Annie Smith hosted by Mrs Buck. Attendees included J Irwin Shorter Mary An Bhorter Arnold Still Phillip Sarah Brown of Philadelphia Stevenson Riverton Lil Booker Florence Hatton James Buck and Hardy Thom Samuel Chase. Samuel Chase spent last Sunday in Atlantic City.
Harrisburg May 14. Hon Harry W Bass representative of the Sixth Legislative District champions the Kline Bill creating a colored regiment as part of the Pennsylvania National Guards. The Clark Bill marking Lake Erie anniversary is also championed. The Colored Regiment Bill passed the House 161 to 1. Bids for buildings for the Emancipation Exposition are due by May 23 1913.
Miss Minnie Filton of Philadelphia stayed with Miss Elsie Billinglee on Friday evening. Mrs. J. R. Mathews hosted Mrs. L. Smith and Mrs. J. Hutton of West Philadelphia Sunday. Mrs. Chas. Lee and daughter from Philadelphia visited Mrs. L. Bagby Monday. A baby boy was born to Mr. and Mrs. Luke Bagby Friday morning. Both mother and child well. Mr. and Mrs. James attended a Newark Delaware funeral on Monday. Mrs. Whittle of Marks Ave is ill with tonsillitis. Mr. Clarence Jackson of New York visited Mr. and Mrs. Whittle Sunday.

Waring at 222 Mint Arcade Philadelphia to learn he has 31 cases in Philadelphia courts 4 in Montgomery County 2 in New Jersey and 1 in Delaware County He has tried 302 divorce cases and never lost a case noting a prior double victory under a new Pennsylvania law expanding court jurisdiction over interstate marriages He offers consultations at his office or after six at another street location and invites clients seeking cases under the new law.
Nine humane societies in the United States and Europe will share more than $300000 from the estate of Caroline G. Ewen of New York whose will filed for probate lists major beneficiaries including the Humane Society Animal Rescue League and Anti-Vivisection Society of New York City and similar groups in Boston London Naples Rome Madeira and Philadelphia.
The Philadelphia Annual Conference of the African Methodist Episcopal Church opened its 97th session at Bethel Church with Bishop Evans Tyree presiding. Attendees were welcomed and assigned to host homes as the conference planned to meet several days. The opening sermon urged hard work in ministry and the value of peace, with Rev. Malater and Rev. Re Bivang noted in leadership roles. Officers elected included I. H. Ringgold as chief secretary R. F. Wright and W. J. Johnson as assistants, and J. M. Palmer as stenographer.
About 1,000 attended the Soap Box Social reception at Horticultural Hall after a performance at the Academy. Ladies wore handsome gowns while enjoying music by E Gilbert Anderson’s Orchestra and the Elks Band conducted by George Johnson. Frederick Brown, wanted in South Carolina on murder charges, received a stay of proceedings after Judge Thompson remanded him to county prison. Attorney G Edward Dickerson appealed to the U S Circuit Court of Appeals, with arguments set for Philadelphia next October. The case highlights racial tensions and the Negro’s right to a fair trial against lynch law.
The People's Choral Society will honor their former director Harry Wright with a grave monument at Greenlawn Cemetery Chester on Sunday May 25. Members travel from B and O station 24th and Chestnut at 12 50 pm to Felton Pa. A Sacred Concert follows at Murphy A M E Church Engle Chester at 245 pm.
