Malvern Pa February 27 services at Pauls A M E Church were well attended with Sunday school at 2 p m and the pastor Rev W G W Watkins preaching at 8. The Bishop Turner Literary Society met with a fine program. Mrs Aaron Jones remains bedbound. Walter H Smith of Smyrna Del visited Malvern on the 26th. Parthenia Twisdale returned home from Mt Pleasant. Marie Dorsey called on Sarah Taylor. An evening party honored their mother and Sidney with Helen Laura Sara Ruth Jos Newton and Smith attending and many games played.
On Wash s birthday February 22 a party was given for Master Jones by nuts in Crestmont Pa. at 3 30 p m games and music followed by a repast. Junius received gifts as young folks left at six o clock wishing him happy returns. Russell Brown celebrated his birthday with a party by his parents with many little tots present and dainties. Kirkley visited Beth.
Louisville speech by Judge Matt O Doherty to Knights of Columbus denounces race prejudice and condemns The Birth of a Nation. He praises charity, Catholic teaching, and warns that the film stirs racial hatred by depicting blacks as fiends. The address received strong applause from white listeners.

Waiters Brotherhood held first annual Feb 24 at Odd Fellows Hall. soloist Laura Blondin and pianist Mrs Ida Williams performed. Young Ladies Progressive Club hosted by Miss Maude Wilson Atlantic Avenue. Mr John Body improving. Mrs Charles Beaubian of Queen Street and her two sons visiting New York.
Andreas Dippel, former Philadelphia-Chicago Opera Company director, urged featuring American composers at Grace La Rue’s Broad Street Theatre recital. He praised Burleigh’s works, noting his journey from popular song under a pseudonym to serious musical recognition.
The Northwestern Breezes notes Morris Brown Church Women’s Day with two evangelists Sister Hawkins and Hazzard and lists members honored. Easter Bazaar plans at Union A M E Church. Nahomi Leonice Dorce born in Port au Prince Haiti died in Columbia Pennsylvania at 17 after a ten week illness. She taught herself music at a young age and served as organist and Sunday school teacher in her father’s Mt Zion churches beginning at age twelve. She traveled as a delegate and held roles such as chief secretary at conventions. She is survived by her parents and several siblings. Funeral held at 2 PM Monday from the family home and burial at Mt Bethel cemetery.
The Coatesville news notes a thumb injury at the Viaduct, visits from West Chester, a hospital bedside trip to Media, and church events at St Paul A. M. E. Church. It records a funeral for Mrs. Jane Josephine Johnson, a robbery and assault on an unnamed man, community gatherings, and upcoming Spencers League activities.
Miss Annie H. Burroughs principal of the National Vocational Training School for Colored Girls and Women in Washington D C spoke at Swarthmore College on the education and training of the race. She said the school aims to teach colored women to be more efficient in everyday life and to do common tasks in an uncommon way. The school educates students from 27 states and four foreign countries and has operated for six years as a leading vocational institution for about 11,000,000 colored people nationwide.
A New Jersey Legislature bill last week would form a Colored Militia regiment in New Jersey and integrate it into the National Guard. The measure frames preparedness as a key aim.

Miss Jane Wiggins a Richmond native and longtime Philadelphia resident died after her dress caught fire from a kitchen range. She ran to the stairs, flames were smothered by bystanders, and she later died at a hospital. Her funeral plans follow local notices.
