Camp Marmagne France Lt Col Watts led the Verdun Minstrels a colored soldier show of 33 men from Ohio with stars like Virgil Pogue and Charles Nickerson touring many towns including Marmagne Bordeaux Romorantin and St Nazaire. The group entertained U S and Allied audiences before evacuation orders ended the voyage.

July Fourth Picnic At McCoach Grounds Feels Community Spirit
8000 guests from Home Defence Reserve and Spanish American War Veterans attended a Fourth of July event at McCoach Grounds. Assault on colored boy at Lincoln Park in Cincinnati
Oliver Pettiford, 18, son of Albert Pettiford, was assaulted by a white gang at Lincoln Park while watching couples dance. Another colored boy was thrown into a lake. Park police arrested the youths. Pettiford’s court case was dismissed. The motive claimed was to drive colored youths from the park.

Long Chain of Colored Theatres Planned Under Walton
New York July 9 Negotiations have formed a circuit of colored theatres with Lester A Walton as general manager. The plan includes Lafayette Theatre lease in New York and Dunbar in Philadelphia, costs $375000 for a 1600 seat house, and circuits in Chicago Baltimore Pittsburgh Richmond Norfolk Cincinnati Indianapolis and Louisville with aims to stage dramatic and musical comedies and establish a school of dramatic art. Walton also to manage Lafayette Theatre starting August 1.
