Court of Appeals Sustains Jim Crow Car Law
In St Louis on January 28 the United States Circuit Court of Appeals upheld Oklahoma Jim Crow car law. Dr. William J. Tompkins, a colored man, sought $50,000 damages after being required to move from a white car to a colored coach on a Missouri Kansas and Texas train near the Oklahoma line. He was arrested and fined $15 following a disturbance.

Brave Sailor Receives Medal for Spanish American War Valor
John H. Anderson of 1540 Sc Opal St a former corporal in the Tenth Cavalry US Army has been awarded a War Department medal for gallantry in the Spanish American War. He participated in San Juan Hill Santiago and Las Guasimas where Roosevelt’s Rough Riders were saved. He was one of ten picked marksmen in a raid on Spanish sharpshooters, and eighteen Spaniards were reportedly killed. He will write an article for the Tribune describing Las Guasimas in detail.

Bill to Share Federal Aid With Colored Farmers
Washington reports an amendment to the Smith Lever Agricultural Extension bill aiming to guarantee that colored farmers receive a fair share of federal aid for farm instruction. Negro leaders say the original extension plan would exclude Negro farmers without the amendment. Southern states would gain most as annual federal allowance grows to about 3.48 million dollars in ten years. Negro agricultural colleges seek their quota of the appropriation.
