Four women and baby killed by explosion in Memphis plant
In Memphis on January 24 a tank car explosion at Colgar Reese Company killed ten people including four women and a baby. Officials say spontaneous combustion from vapors released when the cap was removed caused the blast, which wrecked part of the plant and nearby buildings.

Anthony West, famed cornetist from Virginia, died Sunday January 23 at the State Sanitarium Hamburg Pa. Born April 6 1904 in Philadelphia he studied public schools then Bethel Meade Va. A heavy cold weakened his lungs and he passed away at seven months. He was active at St Peter Claver Church and the L B 3. music earned him gold medals. Survived by mother Madeline Fry sister Theresa West and brother Samuel West.

Banana Peel scheme lands offender in six months
Frank Smith of Lombard Street Camden received six months after confessing to a countrywide banana peel fraud. White Insurance Collector Accused Of Alleged Incident
Baltimore January 24 A warrant is issued for the arrest of Feldernheimer a white collector for Sun Life Insurance for an alleged incident with ten year old Esther Bernice Ghort at her home. The collector visited 61% Pitcher street to collect the Little girl and her grandmother Mrs Fannie Short insurance. He is said to have placed the girl on his lap and demanded payment later returning to attempt collection from Short. The mother supplied the funds but the collector then left.
