A local investigation accuses Arch street white Christian ladies of misusing funds from the Colored Branch of the Central YWCA. The piece alleges embezzlement and coercion of colored women, urging independent Black building efforts and criticizing the modern YWCA for failing its mission.
Miss Gertie Wells, Washington's premier pianist, signs a six month abroad tour contract with a foreign theatrical agent after a Washington dance event. She plans appearances in major cities, including Philadelphia tonight at Waits Dream Dancing Academy with five Jazz Wonders and a vaudeville short.
Detroit residents report police rescued James Crocker from about two hundred people gathered to lynch him outside his home. Crocker claims to have designed a compressed air engine and to have received about $10,000 in loans from members of his race in exchange for stock issued as security. The stock value is alleged at $30,000, and Crocker reportedly planned to flee the city. A warrant charges him with violating state law by issuing stock without state Securities Commission authorization.
Dr. R. R. Wright Jr and Dr Milton N White join the committee of 100 appointed by Mayor Moore to organize the Sesqui Centennial celebration of the Declaration of Independence. John Wanamaker serves as honorary chairman. the Mayor is permanent chairman and the panel includes prominent city figures.
New York January 17 Garvey a pantry cook, age alias James yerina, carrying a sister's letter about quitting his job, is charged with murder of a colored man in North Carolina. Hoover, a Pullman car cook, was arrested leaving a train in Pennsylvania Station. He lived at 434 Hopkins Avenue Brooklyn.
Albany N Y Jan 18 The Negro opera company formation is reported in New York with details of incorporation and early steps for a troupe planned to stage performances in major cities.
New Haven residents demand a complete inquiry into the killing of Joseph Brock after a restaurant incident. The shooting occurred in front of the Dixwell Avenue precinct, prompting mass meetings and calls for prosecutors to reexamine witnesses and actions by Officer O Neil.
Scott Nearing, former University of Pennsylvania instructor, spoke at White's Auditorium on The Labor Movement in France. He described a large union of ex service men pledging not to fight again and warned of socialist and communist influence in urban France and the rise of profiteering after the armistice.
Atlanta January 31. William T. Simmons Imperial Wizard of the Ku Klux Klan denounces statements accusing the Klan of spreading race hatred. He singles out the NAACP in New York City for alleged deceit and extortion, claiming the group uses fear and fraud to threaten Black citizens and collect money. Continued on page 10.
Census data released shows increases in both colored and white populations across several cities. Norfolk Virginia reports 43 477 colored residents and 72 243 whites, growth of 73 2 and 70 6 percent respectively over ten years. Portsmouth follows with 23 242 whites 31 105 colored 100 percent growth lines. Charleston South Carolina records 32 292 colored and 35 617 whites with smaller gains.
New Haven on January 18 marks the dissolution of the Con Woman Suffrage Association after 61 years of effort and achievement. Founders in 1869 included Susan B. Anthony Isabelle Bereher Hooker and Julia Ward Howe with Frances Ellen Burr serving as secretary from 1869 to 1910.
Ella Butcher of Matchtown, an 18 month old boy's mother, was jailed in Camden with $300 bail after a Justice of the Peace Huyett found evidence of neglect. The complaint by Mrs. W. P. Walsh of the Anti Cruelty Society cites severe malnutrition requiring hospital care for the child.
U S District Attorney Hoop er Alexander warns of wide scale wrongs against colored residents in Georgia. He says cases span petty cheating to murder and that federal probes will sweep the state. He notes misuses by magistrates and hints at malpractices within law enforcement. A colored stock exchange and training plans for young brokers are described as part of broader advancement efforts.

After a full reorganization the Waterview Annex Recreation Center in German town resumes winter activities. A new gym floor and pool room repairs precede a move to independent operation by the Department of Public Welfare staff. Current staff includes C. J. Grinnell Beulah Caldwell and Alice Davis Crawford. Activities cover gym classes indoor sports dancing hiking and dramatics plus a thriving baby clinic led by Dr R W Bailey and a weekly Thursday night Dance Association.

James M. Auter completed his twenty sixth year as messenger to the Governor of Pennsylvania. Appointed by Governor Hastings on January fifteenth, 1895, Auter is a well known friernal man with many friends congratulating him on the anniversary.
The United Geological Survey notes radium is a rare metal with a white metallic luster. It has been isolated only once or twice and few people have seen it. It is usually obtained from its ores as sulphate chloride or bromide and sold as these salts. The minerals are white and rarely aminescent.
The House Coinage Committee reported favorably a Senate bill authorizing a Roosevelt two cent piece. The panel said there is genuine need for a small denomination coin for everyday uses. The report cited practical use and public demand as reasons for the proposed coin.
A request from Philadelphia colored organizations to meet with Senator Boies Penrose is sent via telegram by Edward W. Henry, President of the Citizens' Republican Club, seeking early action on legislation affecting their rights in Pennsylvania. The telegram is dated January 24, 1921, and notes a continuation on page 10.

Denver January 16 H J chef general of Union Pacific presented four gold watches to David Turner a colored brakeman on December 23 as a token of appreciation for services on the night of November 20 last year when he thwarted a band of bandits attempting to assault the railroad crew.
A New York Central passenger train derailed near Greenville Ohio sending a Pullman porter from Philadelphia to hospital. The collision occurred when the train jumped the track and struck a freight car. The injured porter is identified as J. R. from Philadelphia.
