Jane Roberts widow of Liberia’s first president died in London at 94 at J R Archer’s Battersea home. Born in the United States to American parents, she was among the original Liberian immigrants said to be the last survivor of that group tied to Queen Victoria and Leopold II.

General Louis Wagner Dies After Notable Career
General Louis Wagner, president of the Third National Bank and chair of the City Trusts board, died Thursday morning at his Chew Street home. A Civil War veteran, he helped recruit and drill 14 000 colored soldiers and later led as Brigadier General while remaining closely allied with Philadelphia’s Black community.
